IN an effort to empower women workers in the city, the leadership of Puerto Princesa thru the IP/Gender & Advocacy Development Program (IP/GAD) will conduct a two-day live-in training on gender sensitivity at the Kuyba Almoneca in Barangay San Jose, Puerto Princesa City.

Ma. Elena M. Hagedorn, the IP/GAD coordinator said that the activity aims to train the participants to be economically productive and be good leaders in their own community while doing their responsibilities at home.

The first lady said that gender sensitivity training is aimed at developing the skills of local government officials in analyzing gender issues and providing comprehensive orientations on local economic development (LED), women economic empowerment (WEE), building knowledge on gender-stereotyping, on the causes, myths and impacts of various forms of violence against women, and developing action plans to implement after the training. The training is part of City-sponsored capacity-building measures on women\'s economic empowerment.

With the training, a roadmap is developed in integrating LED and WEE interventions in the local policies, programs, and services. They will also conduct analysis of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in relation to their local economic and women economic empowerment programs.

Resource persons for the GST sessions include Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn; Ms. Mariflor Gatchalian, of the Board of Psychological Association of the Philippines; Ms. Ana Javarez, of Palawan State University, Ms. Ma. Elena M. Hagedorn, IP/GAD Coordinator; Dr. Erlinda Ganapin, PhD, vice president for academic affairs of PSU; Pastor Ramil Rey of the Palawan Adventist Hospital; and Atty. TJ Matta, legal counsel of IP/GAD.
