PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, 02 November (PIA) -- The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) will hold its annual community information-education campaign in Puerto Princesa City and 3 municipalities in Palawan on December 4-10.
The activity seeks to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, as well as to generate community involvement in migrations concerns. It also aims to raise public awareness on various issues concerning migration, intermarriages, and existing government policies and programs directed against illegal recruitment, documentation fraud, and human trafficking.
Created by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 79 in 1980, the CFO is the premier government institution that promotes policies, programs, and projects with migration and development as a framework for the strengthening and empowerment of the community of Filipinos overseas.
The CFO will be conducting school symposia in Palawan State University, Western Philippines University and the Holy Trinity University; pulong-pulong with local officials in Roxas, Brooke’s Point and Quezon; public assemblies; radio guestings and press briefing with the local media.
There are now 8.6 million Filipinos scattered all over the world many of which are in the United States of America, Canada, Japan, and Australia. In 2010, a total of US$18.7 billion was remitted to the country by Filipinos overseas.
