It’s official!

The Puerto Princesa Underground River is one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

This, after a year of being declared finalist in the internationally-launched New 7 Wonders of Nature, and being included in the “provisionary” list since January 2012.

A formal inauguration slated April 21, 2012, at the Esplanade One in Pasay City at 6 p.m., will formally introduce Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

The campaign’s founder, Bruce Weber himself, will be present. The event promises to be a grand one, with various musical, theatre, dance, and alternative media artists performing.

The performers were carefully selected for their strong advocacies for the environment and nurturing Filipino pride: Black Theater, who will present an Earth Hour tribute; Joey Ayala and Noel Cabangon, two folk powerhouses who will perform with sand artist Dennis Abigan; and HipHop Pinoy, among others.

The hosts, too, make a stellar group: actors Luis Manzano and Dingdong Dantes, socialite and podcast phenomenon Grace Lee, and Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010
winner Venus Raj.

The keynote address will be delivered by no less than His Excellency President Benigno Aquino III.

If people will recall, the president himself rallied and personally endorsed the campaign for the PPUR, calling out to government agencies, kababayans, and
their loved ones here and abroad to vote for their country’s own.

The inauguration will culminate with the unveiling of the New 7 Wonders of Nature Marker by the President with Secretaries Jesse M. Robredo, Ramon R. Jimenez Jr., Ramon J.P. Paje and Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn.

The event will be capped by a fantastic display of fireworks, and dinner. It will be indeed a memorable night to celebrate the Philippines’ presence on the world map as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
