PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, 25 November (PIA) -- A bill in the House of Representative seeking to constitute Puerto Princesa City as a new congressional district passed the Committee on Local Government in its recent hearing.

House Bill 3450 entitled “Separating the City of Puerto Princesa from the second legislative district of the Province of Palawan to constitute the lone legislative district of Puerto Princesa” was filed in October last year and has since been pending in the committee level.

The bill is principally authored by Palawan 2nd District Congressman Dennis M. Socrates and co-authored by 46 Congressmen including 1st district Congressman Antonio C. Alvarez and party-list Congressman Pons Payuyo

In a radio interview this morning, Congressman Payuyo said that the bill encountered no arguments and passed through the committee easily.

He said that the bill, co-authored by several congressmen, is expected to be approved in the House of Representatives without any difficulty because the minimum requirements required by law have been complied with.

For a creation of a new congressional district, there are minimum requirements in land area, income, and population. The National Statistics Office attested in the committee hearing that the city complies with the population requirement of at least 250,000. (dos/vsm/pia-palawan)
