Binay lauds Palawan's Community Mortgage Program

MANILA, April 14 (PNA)-- Vice President Jejomar C. Binay led the distribution of 300 land titles to several home owner associations in Puerto Princesa City on Friday, 120 of them under the Community Mortgage Program (CMP) of the Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC).

He lauded Palawan province for being one of the most active local government units in implementing CMPs. Citing figures from the SHFC, he said over 7,600 families have already benefited from CMPs in Palawan. He also cited the high collection efficiency rate of the province.

Binay, concurrent chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), said that the remaining land titles were distributed to 140 families after they settled their accounts with various other housing agencies.

He said that another 300 land titles were being processed by the National Housing Authority (NHA) for the beneficiaries of Hacienda de Panacan.

As he assured that government remains committed to provide housing to as many people, he said that the dream for a house eventually depended on the person who wanted it. Government’s low-cost housing has a current appropriation of P30 million, sheltering almost 800 families.(PNA)
