Host Puerto Princesa City recently acquired three brand new police vehicles to help its security group become more mobile in monitoring the safety of the participants in the Palarong Pambansa slated April 20-27 in Palawan.

Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn purchased a pair of Toyota Avanza and one Vios amounting to P2 million to firm up its security force of more than 500 policemen and security personnel in looking after the welfare of delegates from all 17 participating regions.

“It was turned over to Col. Enrique Ancheta in a simple ceremony last week,” said Alroben Goh, the host city’s chief information officer.

Goh also said that their security personnel will undergo re-training in handling all delegation members, particularly elementary and high school students fighting not only for recognition in the week-long meet but for berths in the national pool.

The city will employ a total of 112 policemen, 350 civil security and non-armed personnel and an additional 100 from the Armed Forces of the Philippines in critical areas within the city and its outskirts like the competition venues, the billeting areas and the air and seaports.

Goh also said the additional cars would also be used in emergency cases caused by heat stroke. Two death and hundreds of heat stroke-related cases marred last year’s staging of Palaro in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
