PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Feb. 20 (PIA) – The City of Puerto Princesa joins the country in celebration of February as Civil Registration Month with the theme “Quality Civil Registration in Support of the National Development Goals”.
As part of its month-long activities, the National Statistics Office-Palawan has scheduled free issuance of certifications on February 23 in observance of National Birth Registration Day and February 27 to coincide with Civil Registration Day.
The Local Civil Registration Offices in the different towns in the province will hold mass wedding ceremonies, motorcades, IEC campaigns on birth registrations, quiz shows, slogan contests and other promotional activities to generate awareness about the importance of civil registration in the national development planning.
The National Statistics Office is encouraging the City/Municipal Registrars to initiate adoption of a local government resolution that will declare a date in February as Mobile Registration Week.
It was in 1930 with the enactment of Act No. 3753 (Civil Registry Law) where the systematic registration and archiving of vital events was legally defined and instituted.
The vital statistics and indicators derived from the civil registry records are used to plan and evaluate the needs for health programs, social services and other needs of the population. These are also used to measure fertility, morbidity and mortality of the social groups in the community and as basis for studies on population change. (vsm/pia-palawan)
