Women Industry Leaders in Tourism and Agriculture participated in a Consultation Meeting firming the new USAID Women Entrepreneurial Development Program

Through a consultative session organized by USAID’s Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project on February 4, 2020, the women entrepreneurs identified solutions and strategies to address business needs in Puerto Princesa City.  According to the Puerto Princesa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PPCCI), more than half of the businesses in Puerto Princesa City are women-led. To further improve their businesses, the women entrepreneurs identified the need for support in the areas of certification and licensing, product packaging, establishment of service desks, logistics, financing, access to local and international trade and exhibitions, and establishing online digital marketing platform. They also raised the need for skills development in product design and development, branding, business resiliency and continuity. The businesswomen also recognized the potential of Puerto Princesa City’s rich heritage and culture as an added value in promoting their products. Moving forward, the women entrepreneurs will closely work with the PPCCI, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Negosyo Center, and women industry/community associations in the city. Under its Women Entrepreneurial Development Initiative (WED), USAID/SURGE intends to support women entrepreneurs access more markets, participate in viable supply chains, and enhance efficiency and profitability of their existing business ventures.
