PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Feb. 27 (PIA) -- The Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) has received seven bids from independent power producing (IPP) companies for its re-opening of the competitive selection process for the production of 25 megawatts of power in this city.

The 7 IPPs who shall submit their expressions of interest are Delta P Power Corporation, Palawan Power Generation, Inc., DMCI Power Corporation, Primewater Infrastructure Corporation, Power-One, Langogan Power Corporation and Asian Power Development.

The winning IPP will supply the immediate and long-term power requirements of PALECO with the expanding economic development of the city. The immediate need is to fill in the 10-megawatt present demand and to provide another 15 megawatts within five years.

Currently, PALECO has a combined energy supply of 38.7 megawatts. These are provided by Palawan Power Generation, Inc. (PPGI-Puerto Princesa) with 11.2 megawatts, Delta P with 13.5 megawatts, PPGI- Narra with 4 megawatts and National Power Corporation (NPC) with 10 megawatts.

The power provided by the NPC through the AGGREKO is covered by an Interim Supply Agreement that will expire on November 2013. The deficiency created by the expiration of this contract is what is being bid out presently. (VSM/PIA-Palawan)
