PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, APRIL 25 (PIA) --- The City Council of Puerto Princesa amended recently some sections of the Traffic Code, particularly the strict enforcement of the truck ban from Mondays to Fridays in the main streets of the City.
Under the said ordinance heavy vehicles are not allowed to pass the main streets like, E. Valencia Street from corner Rizal Avenue; Malvar Street from corner E. Valencia to Burgoz Streets; and along Burgos Street from corner Malvar Street to Rizal Avenue between 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.; 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Likewise, the portion of Manalo Street Extension from the intersection of Sandoval Street passing through the intersection of Roxas, Burgos, Valencia, Ho. Mendoza, Lacao to Fernandez Streets; the intersection of Rizal Avenue (near the Provincial Capitol) to the entire National Highway going to Junction II (near Palawan Adventist Hospital) from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
According to Councilor Henry A. Gadiano, Chairman of the Committee on Transportation of the City Council, the intension of the ordinance is to lessen the traffic congestion in the above-mentioned specific routes and times; and to prevent accidents particularly during school days.
Originally, the ordinance only specified some portions of busy streets for two hours but it was lessen into only one hour. There were portions included in the expansion of truck ban for the benefit of the riding public.
Failure to comply of the said ordinance will be fined P500.00. This ordinance will take effect 15 days after it sees publication in a locally-circulated newspaper.
