PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Dec.11 (PIA) -- “Palawan is being used as a transit point of human trafficking bound for Malaysia,” bared Ruby Ramores, head of the secretariat of the Inter-Agency Council on Anti-Trafficking (IACAT) in a recent press conference here.
Ramores, together with a team from the Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO), went to Palawan to conduct its yearly community education program on migration.
The commission hopes to assist prospective migrants in making informed decisions regarding settlement abroad, as well as to generate community involvement in migration concerns as well as on illegal recruitment, and human trafficking.
“We plan to conduct this activity yearly in Palawan because of the many reported cases of human trafficking this year alone,” Ramores said.
The team conducted school symposia, public assemblies, meetings with local officials, and radio interviews in the towns of Roxas, Brooke’s Point, Quezon, and here in Puerto Princesa City.
The team also met with officials of the World Vision International and the Philippine Ports Authority for possible partnership in the campaign against human trafficking.
