PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN, February 23 (PIA) The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) intercepted yesterday a container van containing undocumented Ukay-ukay.
In a press statement, the goods were intercepted by the joint elements of Coast Guard station Puerto Princesa and Coast Guard K9 detachment Puerto Princesa.
They were able to confiscate eighteen (18) bundles of used clothing (Ukay-Ukay) on board M/V Moreta Cargo 2 of Moreta Shipping bound from Manila to Puerto Princesa City on February 19, 2011 upon arrival at the port of Puerto Princesa City.
The apprehension was a result by a tip by an unknown caller who said items were loaded in the container van number ML SI 710135-1 onboard M/V Moreta Cargo 2 without pertinent documents.
At 1:30 PM of the same date, the PCG Inspection Team coordinated with Moreta Shipping Lines Office for the conduct of search / verification on the reported container van loaded with contraband. Immediately after approval of the shipping company, said container van was inspected and was found to be containing 18 bundles of Ukay-Ukay clothes.
Further verification on the bill of lading revealed that it was declared as dry goods and was consigned / shipped by a certain Ara Malik of Rizal, Palawan and Yusop Solaiman of Narra, Palawan. Said bundles of used clothing were temporarily stored inside the container van of Moreta Shipping Lines for safekeeping while awaiting legal documents/ papers from the owner.
