PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, March 12 (PIA) – House Bill No. (HBN) 5608 entitled “An Act Reapportioning the Province of Palawan into Three Legislative Districts” was approved in third reading recently, replacing the original House Bill 03650 filed in October last year authored by Palawan 2nd District Congressman Dennis Victorino Socrates who seeks the creation of a third legislative district in the province.

Under HBN 5608, there will be a third legislative district in the province to be composed by the City of Puerto Princesa and the municipality of Aborlan.
Presently, there are only two legislative districts in Palawan. Puerto Princesa City and Aborlan belongs to the 2ndcongressional district with Balabac, Bataraza, Brooke’s Point, Sofronio Española, Rizal, Quezon, and Narra.

The first congressional district is composed of Agutaya, Araceli, Busuanga, Cagayancillo, Coron, Cuyo, Culion, Dumaran, El Nido, Linapacan, Magsaysay, Roxas, San Vicente, Taytay and Kalayaan. The composition of the municipalities in the first districts remains the same under the proposed bill.

HBN 5608 is now under study in the Committee of Local Government of the Senate chaired by Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. (LBR/VSM-PIA4 B/Palawan)
