Filipino news:League of municipalities backs Hagedorn’s senate bid

Puerto Princesa, March 11(CIO) - Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn’s senatorial bid gets another boost with the endorsement of the national League of Municipalities.

Through a resolution, the head executives of the different municipalities all over the Philippines have expressed their full support to the senatorial candidacy of Hagedorn.

Despite their different political affiliations, League of Municipalities spokesperson Mayor Dennis Go said they have not countered any opposition in coming up with a formal declaration of support to Hagedorn’s bid for a senatorial seat.

The heads of the different municipalities in the Philippines were in Puerto Princesa City for their national directorate meeting where they expect to come up with a framework to unite the municipalities in the country.

Go said that they have thrown in their support not only because Hagedorn is a local chief executive like themselves but also because they also believe and support his advocacies.

Hagedorn, who is serving his last term as the mayor of Puerto Princesa City after 20 years of being a public servant, is a staunch environmentalist and anti-mining advocate.

The local chief, who joined the senatorial race as an independent candidate, has also already secured the endorsement of the League of Cities of the Philippines.

Though he initially admitted that it is difficult to run as an independent candidate, Hagedorn expressed his confidence that his current position in the senatorial race will go up as he makes his rounds during the campaign period.

He said that when he started going around for his campaign, only a few knew he is running for the senate. But when people found out that he is, they readily assured him of their support, the mayor shared.

The people, the multi-awarded mayor said, give him their support because they can see his sincerity in serving his constituents.(Tristan Ray I. Besa, Palawan Times)
