PUERTO PRINCESA GEARS UP FOR AUDAX CYCLING IN 2027, AN OFFICIAL QUALIFIER FOR PARIS-BREST-PARIS

Representatives of the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Council (CTC) and Audax Randonneurs Philippines paid a courtesy call on Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron to discuss the return of the Ultra Cycling Event on February 27, 2027, bringing another major sports tourism activity to the city.

First launched on a trial basis in Palawan in 2022, the event is set to make its comeback with 200-kilometer, 300-kilometer, and 400-kilometer rides, including qualifying brevets for the prestigious Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) Randonneur.

Audax promotes randonneuring, a non-competitive, long-distance cycling discipline that challenges riders’ endurance and self-reliance while emphasizing road safety and responsible cycling.

“Maganda naging feedback (ng mga cyclists) sa kalsada natin. Hopefully, makuha na po natin ‘yung Audax taon-taon,” Puerto Princesa City Tourism Council President Bryan John Dizon shared with Mayor Bayron.

Also present during the meeting were Audax PH Operations Manager Ann Aleonar, iGO Bikes owner Ian Go, and City Events Head Carlos Abogado, Jr.

The return of the event is expected to draw cycling enthusiasts from different parts of the country to Puerto Princesa, giving them an opportunity to experience the city’s scenic routes, natural attractions, and hospitality.

“Madadaan din po ng mga cyclists ‘yung Acacia Tunnel sa gabi as part of the route,” Aleonar said.

With the support of local partners iGO Bikes, Go Hotels, and Robinsons, the initiative also opens opportunities for local businesses and tourism stakeholders to benefit from increased visitor activity.

Mayor Bayron expressed strong support for the activity, particularly because it aligns with his directive to promote Puerto Princesa City as a sports tourism capital of the country.
