Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron met with Assistant Secretary Gervy James N. Gumarit of the National Youth Commission during a courtesy call last March 26, 2026, at the City Mayor’s Office to discuss key youth development initiatives.
During the meeting, the National Youth Commission shared that teenage pregnancy remains a common challenge across the region. The NYC is currently working on a regional approach to address this in collaboration with the Department of Health, in support of ongoing local government efforts.
The discussion also covered the strengthening of youth programs through improved monitoring and evaluation systems, ensuring 100 percent compliance in the reporting and submission of Local Youth Development Plans.
Mayor Bayron highlighted the strong performance of Puerto Princesa’s youth sector, with active and impactful Sangguniang Kabataan programs. The National Youth Commission also recognized the city as a potential benchmarking site for youth development.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen youth development initiatives.
