“This initiative is about protecting our coast, protecting our marine life, protecting our number one industry, tourism, and most importantly, protecting the future of our fellow citizens.”
This was emphasized by Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron during the 19th Save the Puerto Princesa Bays and 41st International Coastal Cleanup, where various sectors and volunteers came together to protect the coast and the sea of Puerto Princesa.
According to Mayor Bayron, Puerto Princesa has been participating in the International Coastal Cleanup every year, and the participation in this global initiative has been continuous.
Meanwhile, since the launch of the Save the Puerto Princesa Bays in 2023, a total of 931.06 tons of garbage have been collected through the coastal cleanup activities.
For Mayor Bayron, the true value of the program is more than the amount of garbage collected: it is the building of discipline, compassion, and collective responsibility of every citizen in the protection of the environment.
“Let us not litter because the garbage we leave behind will end up in the estuaries, in the waterways, and eventually, in the ocean.”
Alongside the coastal cleanup, Effective Microorganisms (EM) Mudballs Throwing was also conducted using the Clean Swell App, which is used to detect marine litter collected as part of the International Coastal Cleanup.
The mayor also emphasized the importance of continuing the Save the Puerto Princesa Bays not only for the current administration but as a collective advocacy for the entire city.
“I hope the next one will continue this. You, the citizens, continue this,” Mayor Bayron urged.
