Dumoble ang bilang ng mga atletang kalahok sa World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Contender Puerto Princesa 2026, na kinabibilangan ng mga manlalaro mula sa 20 bansa. Mula sa mahigit 200 na manlalaro noong nakaraang taon, pumalo na sa 426 ang mga atletang kalahok ngayong taon.
Ito ang masayang ibinalita ni Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron sa ginanap na WTT Press Conference kahapon, Setyembre 2, 2026.
Ikaapat na sunod-sunod na taon nang gaganapin sa Puerto Princesa ang WTT Youth Contender, dahilan upang muling ipahayag ni Mayor Bayron ang kanyang pasasalamat sa mga partner organization sa patuloy na pagtitiwala sa lungsod bilang host ng prestihiyosong international sporting event.
“This is already our 4th year here, and we are seeing the trend going up, right? Double the participants from last year’s. It only goes to show that the Sports Tourism thrust of the City Government of Puerto Princesa has been very fruitful now,” ani WTT International Referee Rachel DL Ramos.
Samantala, 20 bansa rin ang lalahok sa WTT Feeder Series Puerto Princesa 2026, na kauna-unahang idaraos sa Pilipinas at Puerto Princesa ang muling napiling mag-host ng international competition.
“Puerto Princesa is becoming not only a tourism destination but also a major sports destination. Malaking bagay para sa city na dito hino-host ’yan (WTT) kasi, siyempre, ’yung image natin nabi-build-up. Nare-recognize tayo at ’yung mga pumupunta rito they will be saying good words about the city na safe doon, maganda doon. Makakatulong sa tourism natin,” paliwanag ni Mayor Bayron.
Kasama ni Mayor Bayron sa naturang press conference sina WTT Supervisor Ankit Agarwal, National Academy of Sports Head Coach Karen Jaleco, WTT Assistant Event Director Daniel Deleniana, WTT International Referee Rachel DL Ramos, at City Sports Director Atty. Rocky Austria.
“We are always here to assist and provide solutions to the concerns of the organizers […] I am happy because the number of participants doubled. It just goes to show that the trust and confidence in Puerto Princesa as a host is really there,” pahayag ni Atty. Austria.
