Participating micro businesses at Caraenan sa Balayong recorded a significant increase in sales during the recently concluded Paskong Masaya sa Puerto Princesa, reflecting the effectiveness of the livelihood programs of the Puerto Princesa City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron.
According to data from the Negosyo Center PPC, total generated sales during Caraenan sa Balayong of Paskong Masaya sa Puerto Princesa reached 17.3 million pesos in 2025, nearly double the 8.1 million pesos recorded in 2024. The growth is even more notable considering there were fewer tenants this year, yet overall earnings were substantially higher.
Through the program Paskong Masaya sa Puerto Princesa – Caraenan sa Balayong, 64 micro businesses were given the opportunity to sell and showcase their products from December 1, 2025 to January 4, 2026. More than just providing selling space, the initiative created meaningful opportunities for entrepreneurs to expand their market and increase their income during the holiday season.
Under the clear direction of Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron to strengthen the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, the initiative was intensified following the pandemic. The Mayor issued marching orders to ensure that micro businesses would be supported in generating income and recovering from the economic impact of the pandemic.
The Negosyo Center PPC continues to serve as a home for MSMEs. In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, it provides mentoring, product development support, and other services that enhance the quality and competitiveness of local products.
Micro business owners expressed gratitude to the City Government for its continued support, acknowledging that it has been challenging for them to fully recover after the pandemic. The assistance provided through the Negosyo Center PPC has helped them regain stability and confidence in their businesses.
“3 years after pandemic, naging okay naman po ang pag-assist sa akin. Lahat po ng events na binigay at nilatag ng negosyo center, ito po ay nakatulong ng sobra-sobra. Nabuhay, naging masaya kasi nabago yung alam mo yung pagkadapa mo, nandito ang City Government para kami ay tulungan,” according to Remedios E. Biag, Owner of Kuzina ni Trixia
According to Negosyo Center City Focal Person Amy Abrio, the improved product quality of entrepreneurs, the extended holiday season, and the steady influx of visitors to Balayong People’s Park who also passed through Caraenan all contributed to the strong sales performance. As a result, more locally made products gained exposure and patronage.
The continued increase in sales demonstrates that the City Government’s support translates into concrete economic gains. Through sustained livelihood programs, small businesses are empowered and strengthened, serving as a vital backbone of Puerto Princesa’s local economy.
