The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), through its third-party consultant A.C. Ong Consulting Inc., formally presented to Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron the proposed architectural design of the Sabang Integrated Wharf today, February 4, 2026.
The presentation was attended by representatives from the TIEZA, the City Engineering Office, the City Architect’s Office, and the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP) – Protected Area Management Office (PAMO).
During the discussion, immediate feedback and considerations were raised including climate resiliency, cost efficiency, maintenance requirements, energy needs, foot traffic management, alternative roofing options and the community use of the wharf such as fish landing and boat docking.
“In addition to the feasibility study, we required that the design be based on technical studies such as bathymetric and hydrographic surveys, as well as oceanographic and meteorological studies. These are necessary to ensure the resiliency and operability of the proposed project and to minimize environmental impacts, considering that the Puerto Princesa Underground River is a protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site,” said Atty. Christine N. Longno, PPSRNP Park Superintendent.
Through this infrastructure and aesthetic improvement initiative, the City Government of Puerto Princesa in partnership with TIEZA, aims to enhance comfort, accessibility and convenience, providing a better experience for tourists and locals alike.
“Kailangan din talaga ng magandang wharf doon sa area not just for the guest but also for the community. Mas maganda na mayroon tayong maayos na wharf na mapapakinabangan ng lahat,” Atty. Longno added.
