PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, September 29 (PIA) -– the voice of the youth will be heard this afternoon as ten secondary students compete in the Extemporaneous Speaking Competition spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa.
The competition aims to develop the skills and proficiency of the young students in public speaking using the English language. It is open to all secondary students in both public and private high schools.
Specifically, it seeks to develop the ability of students to form their point of view on a given topic within a limited preparation time and to effectively communicate their message to an audience.
A common topic will be the subject of the contestant’s speeches. The topics to be chosen will be within the competence of an average secondary student. The organizer shall prepare the topic which will be revealed to the contestant only 15 minutes before he/she gives the speech before the audience and the judges. A contestant’s speech should not exceed 6 minutes.
The undertaking of this competition is in line with the worldwide celebration by the Rotary International of the month of September as New Generations Month which focuses on the talent and dedication of the youth as future leaders.
