PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Mar. 27 (PIA) -- The Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) is offering some areas within the watershed to government institutions and non-government organizations as their permanent planting sites so that tree planting can be done on a monthly basis.

In a press interview recently, Antonio Romasanta, PPCWD general manager said they are working together with local organizations from both public and private institutions to enhance protection of the city’s watershed area in Barangay Irawan.

He said that the long-term management and protection of the only watershed area in the city should also be the commitment of the community and its people and not only the water consumers or subscribers.

Some of the organizations and agencies that are helping the PPCWD in its undertaking are the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and the Philippine National Police (PNP), which has an existing designated planting area inside the watershed.

Its newest partner in the protection of the watershed is the Rotary Club of Puerto Princesa, which signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the PPCWD to maintain and manage its designated planting site of 5,000 square meters.

Romasanta said that they are open to the same kind of partnership with all agencies and organizations interested to have their own planting sites, to support PPCWD to protect and conserve the environment, consequently making sustainable the city’s only source of water. (LBR/VSM/PIA-Palawan)
