PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Feb. 13 (PIA) -- Tourist arrivals in Palawan soared by 17 percent in 2011, consistently placing 1st in the MIMAROPA region and 5th in the overall record of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

This was revealed in yesterday’s presentation of DOT Region IV Director Louella C. Jurilla in the second day of the Tourism Summit at the City Coliseum.

 

The three-day summit is the first gathering of all stakeholders of the local tourism industry in Puerto Princesa City and is being undertaken to come up with the industry’s Three-Point Agenda that will spell out standards and regulations, public-private partnerships, and its Code of Ethics.

 

Jurilla presented the development plan of the DOT for the country, the MIMAROPA region and for Palawan, identifying the present challenges and opportunities facing the province and PuertoPrincesa City.

 

The summit ends today with the presentation of the output of the breakout groups, covenant signing, and the presentation of the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Agenda.(VSM/PIA-Palawan)
