More families to benefit from 4Ps in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, 03 February (PIA) -- More families will benefit this year in the expansion program of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) bringing to 52,898 the total families registered under the program in Palawan.
For this year alone, 24,538 families in 8 municipalities are expected to receive conditional cash transfers. With the exception of Kalayaan, all municipalities in Palawan will be covered by 4Ps.
“We are currently validating the families in the barangays that are included in the 4Ps expansion areas. We expect to saturate the province of Palawan by the first quarter of the year”, said Ms. Abigail Ablana, the Regional Focal Person for 4Ps.
The expansion areas this year are Aborlan, Cagayancillo, Culion, Magsaysay for the Set 4A. Bataraza, Brooke’s Point and Narra are included in Set 4B and Cuyo is under Set 4C. The Municipal 4Ps Links are conducting community assemblies for orientations and bank enrolments for those in Set 4A and 4B.
For areas under Set 4A which also include Puerto Princesa City, there are 9,193 potential families that are being validated. Puerto Princesa City was already covered under Set3 last year.
The breakdown of families per municipality are as follows: Aborlan – 2601 families; Cagayancillo – 526 families; Culion – 1,099; Magsaysay – 794; Bataraza – 5542; Brooke’s Point – 4825; Narra – 3852; Cuyo – 1126; and Puerto Princesa City – 4173.
Ms. Ablana said that the conditional cash transfer is now made easy for the families because of the new mode of payment through G Cash remittance. Under the new mode of payment, the families can avail of their monthly financial assistance by just going to any of the nearest accredited money transfer services or the G Cash stations.
Last year, approximately PhP170 million cash grants were given to 28,360 families in Palawan. The 4Ps aims to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty through investment in human capital such as education, health and nutrition.
