MANILA, April 7 (PNA) - Director-General Nicanor Bartolome, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, said on Saturday the traditional observance of the Holy Week was generally peaceful throughout the country.

Citing field reports received by the National Operations Center (NOC)in Camp Crame, Bartolome said the overall situation from Maundy Thursday until Black Saturday had been generally peaceful, particularly in popular Holy Week destinations like Boracay, Puerto Galera, Baguio City and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

As of Saturday, the NOC reported only six incidents of homicide, physical injuries, robbery and vehicular accidents in four regions, resulting in two deaths and injuries to six other persons.

Bartolome said that security measures, particularly in places of convergence, were in place.

"Pro-active measures such as conduct of police visibility and patrol operations are being undertaken by field units to ensure peaceful observance of the Lenten season," the PNP chief said. (PNA)
