Mimaropa players from Puerto Princesa City gifted their region with its first gold medal in the Palarong Pambansa 2008 when they crushed the defense of NCR for a 2-0 win in sepak takraw in their titular match at Mendoza Park held April 24.

The Mimaropa sepak takraw team, composed mostly by students from Palawan National School, gave the region its third-in-a-row triumph.
The victory served as an early birthday gift for coach Camilo Apdon, a PNS teacher, who marks his 55th birthday today.

The takraw boys dominated their rivals early in the first regu, 21-14, 21-10 and followed it up with a stronger offensive in the second canto, which ended 21-12, 21-10.
Central Luzon defeated Western Visayas for the bronze medal.

The winning team is composed of John Jeffrey Villaverde, Ronsited Gabayeron, Sid Estrera, Jeferd Rugay, John Geremson Frago, Marion John Duran, Dominador Frago, Michael Angelo Zumaraga, Jordan Reynante, Japeth Barbosa, Regim Molejon Jr.,and Gabinete Aristotle who lifted their coach while singing ‘Happy Birthday’ for him.
