PUERTO PRINCESA CITY RECORDS ITS HIGHEST CRUISE SHIP ARRIVALS IN 2025

Puerto Princesa City continues to rise as a premier cruise ship destination in the country after recording its highest number of cruise ship arrivals in 2025.

A total of 27,023 passengers and 13,043 crew members arrived in the city, with 20 cruise ships docking throughout the year. Compared to 2024, passenger and crew arrivals increased by 46.63%, while cruise ship calls rose by 33.33%, marking the highest figures recorded in recent years.

Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron said the surge in arrivals is the result of improved city preparations for cruise ship operations, enhanced port readiness, and strong coordination among the City Government, national agencies, and tourism stakeholders.

Puerto Princesa is part of the Department of Tourism’s Turquoise Triangle, together with Manila and Boracay, which are recognized as major cruise port areas in the country. This designation underscores the city’s growing role as a key gateway for cruise tourism in the Philippines.

International port agents and operators continue to choose Puerto Princesa for its natural attractions, efficient port operations, and strong local government support. Popular destinations for cruise passengers include the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park & World Heritage Site, island-hopping tours, and other coastal and community-based tourism sites that provide quality experiences even within short port calls.

Each cruise ship arrival is marked by a warm welcome reception organized by the City Government in coordination with tourism partners. Cruise passengers are greeted with drum and lyre performances and cultural shows, showcasing local heritage and creating a memorable first impression of the city.

The city’s organized transportation system, strong security measures, and commitment to cleanliness further contribute to the consistent return of cruise ships. These arrivals generate significant economic activity, benefiting shorex handlers, transport services, souvenir shops, restaurants, and other small businesses.

From 2023 to 2025, cruise tourism in Puerto Princesa has shown steady growth following the pandemic-related decline in 2020, reflecting the confidence of international cruise lines in the city as a safe, well-managed, and world-class destination.

This achievement was further recognized as the Department of Tourism conferred on Puerto Princesa City the Philippine Tourism Excellence Award for Lakbay-Dagat (Cruise Destination) for 2025 to 2027, affirming the city’s outstanding performance in cruise tourism development and management.

Mayor Bayron assured that the City Government will continue to strengthen its programs to ensure readiness for increased cruise ship arrivals while maintaining order, cleanliness, and a high-quality visitor experience.

With the continued rise in cruise ship arrivals, Puerto Princesa City further solidifies its position as one of the country’s key tourism gateways and a vital pillar of the local economy.
