Under the leadership of Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, Puerto Princesa City continues to demonstrate strong performance in governance and development after securing notable rankings in the 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, developed by the National Competitiveness Council in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, measures the performance of local governments based on key pillars including Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation.
In the 2024 CMCI rankings among 33 Highly Urbanized Cities, Puerto Princesa ranked 16th overall with a score of 40.23.
Among the five pillars measured by the index, the city placed 8th in Infrastructure with a score of 7.7017, highlighting its strong performance in infrastructure development and public facilities.
Puerto Princesa also ranked 13th in Resiliency with 12.0957, reflecting the city’s capacity to strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience.
Meanwhile, the city ranked 21st in Government Efficiency with 10.3604, 25th in Innovation with 7.2774, and 30th in Economic Dynamism with 2.7949.
According to CMCI Focal Person and LEDIP Officer Lorraine Banzuelo, the city government continues to prioritize infrastructure development and social services under the leadership of Mayor Bayron to address development gaps in both urban and rural areas. These initiatives help strengthen economic activity and improve the delivery of services for residents.
She added that the city’s 16th overall ranking is a positive indication of Puerto Princesa’s growing competitiveness and further strengthens the city’s image as an attractive destination for investments. With this, the local government will continue to strengthen collaboration with national agencies and development partners to further enhance the city’s performance.
Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron said the recognition reflects the city government’s continued commitment to strengthening public services and advancing development initiatives in Puerto Princesa.
“These results inspire us to continue working harder to move Puerto Princesa forward,” Mayor Bayron said.
