Ranking commanders of the Moro National Liberation Front in Palawan led by Muharam Jainal, Northern Palawan Task-Force Volcano Chief, Habibol Sumandal, Southern Palawan Task-Force Volcano Head and Khalid Raymundo, Northern Palawan Revolutionary State Committee Chairman; the Western Command represented by it’s Chief of Staff Navy Captain Abraham F. Celzo and Assistant Chief of Staff for civilian and military operations Lt. Col. Amerigo A. Fabrigar ; and the City Philippine National Police headed by P/Superintendent Rolando T. Amurao signed a peace covenant thru the initiative of Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn, who also affixed his signature on the said document.
The historic occasion was held at the Asturias Hotel last September 6, 2009. It was also attended by Vice Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, Councilor Rebecca Labit, City Administrator Atty. Agustin M. Rocamora and City Information officer Alroben J. Goh on the City Government side.
Among the points that the parties commit to do are to maintain and sustain close watch against those who intend to destroy the brotherly relations and peaceful co-existence between muslims and Christians in the City of Puerto Princesa; to continue close cooperation with the city government and other peace keeping offices and to share information against those trying to destroy this close relationship.
The formation of an informal crisis management group during any crisis or eventualities was also agreed upon and that all the signatories of the peace covenant are bound to recognize the 1996 peace agreement in letter and in spirit.
